The Mews House, Hampstead
I developed a planting scheme for a courtyard garden and green wall with the team at SPACE+MATTER who had been appointed to fully refurbish a typical Victorian mews house in a conservation area in Hampstead, London.
The garden was landscaped and transformed into a tranquil and spacious outdoor area that can be used for entertaining as well as providing a safe children’s play area flowing directly from the house. Softened with green planting inspired by the owner’s upbringing in Australia. I used ferns, grasses and Fatsia Japonica in a ticky shady courtyard to bring texture and interst all year and screens of Star Jasmine to cover the walls.
Further outdoor space was created by the addition of a large, private roof terrace at first floor level overlooking the garden onwhich we installed a green wall system, planting it with drought tolerant ferns, grasses and Heucheras, complementing the colours in the floor tiles.
