Tiny Terrariums: Compton, Surrey

Terrariums were first created in the Victorian era, came back into fashion in the 70s and have now returned as we seek to green up our homes.  In essence they are a garden in a sealed glass container.  The sealed container makes a micro-climate which means these little green oasis are really easy to look after.  I’ll provide all the materials and plants for you to make your very own Jam Jar Terrarium to take home.

I’m very proud to have been asked to take part in the MAKE Festival, a celebration of making at the beautiful Watts Gallery.  It’s theme this year is The Arts & Crafts Home – In partnership with the Crafts Council and featuring makers and furniture from BBC Two’s Victorian House of Arts & Crafts.  You can try your hand at making many Arts and Crafts inspired pieces including my Terrariums, wallpaper, bookbinding and cameo all of which a Victorian family would have recognised.

Date: 28th September (although the MAKE Festival is also running on 29th too)

Time: 11 – 4

Location:Watts Gallery, Compton, Surrey

Cost: Access to the MAKE Festival is free with General Admission to the Watts Gallery: Adults £11.75 and Children under 16 go free.

… make your garden bloom all year round or your very own floral creation.

I’m a Gardener and Designer who loves being creative and encouraging other people to enjoy plants and flowers, either by using them creatively in their gardens or by using them indoors to create beautiful posies, wreaths or arrangements.  I save seedheads and prunings, press flowers, forage hedgerows, fill vases indoors and out and collect nuts and leaves, I think it’s the scavenger in me, or just the little girl that collected interesting things from the garden, wood or beach!

I teach workshops on gardening techniques, and more creative workshops for small groups, hen parties and children’s parties. Topics include:

  • Easy design tricks to give your garden the wow factor
  • Creating seasonal pots and containers
  • Making Summer flowering hanging baskets
  • Spring, Autumn and Christmas wreaths
  • Fantastic flower crowns
  • Build a Terrarium

Just had my hoedown. I was feeling completely overwhelmed by my garden. I now feel excited to get out there and put into place all the wonderful ideas Renee gave me … would recommend Renee to everyone!

We started with a hoedown and were so impressed and blown away by Renee’s knowledge, passion and ideas, that we booked her garden design and planting services.

I had a lovely session with Renée discussing our garden. It was a great opportunity to get advice on how to look after favourite plants and she had so many planting ideas for those problem areas.

Absolutely wonderful, full of amazing ideas, gives great advice. Allowed me to see my garden in a different way.

My garden makes me smile now . . . everyday it makes me smile

Renée has created a space that feels bigger than before and I just love to sit and look at it!
