This garden backs onto woodland and not only was its heavy clay proving challenging when selecting plants but its lack of structure made it feel ‘samey’ and vague.

I reshaped the lawn and beds to create a more flowing space and spots for seating to make the most of the sun in the evening and morning.  We were also able to use the owner’s beautiful statues and garden accessories to create focal points which drew the eye (and the the feet) into and through the garden.

Planting plans for 2 distinct areas of planting were connected by repetition of colour to make the areas link together seamlessly using new plants and by splitting and moving existing perennials and shrubs.

This small courtyard garden was created to showcase the owners stunning collection of Acers and shrubs and to give it’s owner somewhere peaceful to sit and enjoy the sun and her favourite plants.

I used simple shapes to make the space feel bigger than it actually is.  A patio area made the most of the sunny aspect and allowed enough space for seating, posts and a water feature.  A path on the diagonal enabled access to the garage and using sandstone for the hard landscaping brought consistency and harmony.
